The NET has three main objectives. Firstly, our group aims to examine ethical issues around brain sciences/disorders through the creation of the first national neuroimaging ethics research team. This will increase the ability within Canada to deal with important, novel, and pressing ethical issues arising from recent advancements in the field of neuroimaging.

Our second objective is to build a NET that draws on the power of diversity and teamwork. Diversity will be achieved by having a variety of disciplines relevant to neuroimaging ethics represented, such as bioethics, law, medicine, neuroscience, philosophy, physics, and psychology. Team members will bring with them perspectives gained from their links to a wide cross-section of respected eastern and western Canadian institutions.

The third objective is the timely dissemination and translation of the NET’s research findings through associations with the academic, research, clinical, and policy communities. The NET will reach out to these communities through such means as publishing articles in academic journals, presenting findings at national and international professional meetings, and liaising with provincial and federal policy-makers.
